Johanningsmeier Family Heirlooms

August Johanningsmeier’s (1857-1906) Violin. August made and carved this violin. “He made the bow from a fence rail and from hair pulled from a horse’s tail. Many years later, his son, Simon, gave the violin to Jean Ann Huntington, August’s granddaughter.”- The Johanningsmeier Family of America and Germany by Barbara Johanningsmeier Brake.
August Johanningsmeier was born June 19, 1857 in Knox County Indiana and was the son of Simon Johanningsmeier (1829-1918) and Henrietta Maedel Johanningsmeier (1827-1886). August and his wife Elizabeth Graeper Johanningsmeier had nine children: Simon, Meta, Alma, Frederick, Otto, William, Walter, Herman and Hulda Johanningsmeier. August’s son Walter Johanningsmeier (1902-1943) and his wife Martha Kemp Johanningsmeier (1910-2001) had five children Jean Ann, Walter, Norman, Barbara and Donald “Ray” Johanningsmeier.
